Whitening is a non-invasive treatment for anyone over the age of 18 who wants their smile to look whiter and youthful again. It works on everyone and will almost always give you the desired white color you want!
How does whitening work?
Whitening is a non-invasive procedure, it simple terms the whitening gel removes all the staining particles from the top surface of your the teeth which has been built up over many years. The final result is white, youthful looking teeth! The procedure is very simple; Dev will make you custom fitting home whitening trays, after you receive these, a full kit of whitening gel will be provided. A small amount of gel is placed in the whitening trays every night and worn nightly for a few weeks. The beauty of home whitening is you can stop at the shade you want whenever you are happy. After this initial whitening session, the teeth will retain their new white colour for around 18 months, but this differs between different people depending on their lifestyles (smoking, coffee, wine etc). You can then whiten your teeth again once a year, every year, for a few days to bring back that sparkly white colour!
Does it hurt?
Mild sensitivity is normal with whitening, simply because as you remove the staining particles you expose small pores in the tooth which forms a pathway for cold stimuli directly to the middle of teeth causing that short sharp sensitivity pain. Dr. Dev Patel will assess your level of sensitive before whitening and will advised you how to avoid or minimize the sensitivity. Normally, anti-sensitive gel can be placed in the trays during the whitening treatment to help reduce any symptoms.
Does it damage my teeth?
No, home whitening using very low levels of whitening gel is a non-invasive and safe treatment. In fact, 3 weeks of home whitening does the same amount of ‘damage’ to enamel as drinking 1 can of coke!
